The BYD Song Pro arrived in Brazil in 2024 with a declared focus on the Toyota Corolla Cross. At the time, however, it concentrated its efforts on performance and electric range, as it had to hide its biggest deficiency: the absence of driver assistance systems (ADAS). In the 2026 model year, this ended – but it’s about to change.
There are two versions available: the GL, priced at R$ 189,990, and the GS, priced at R$ 199,990, which you can see here. These prices are practically the same as the model’s launch price in Brazil in July 2024. It only became R$ 190 more expensive, since BYD stopped using “800” at the end of its prices and started using “990” – in practical terms, the small difference makes a considerable difference. And, for comparison, the Corolla Cross XRX Hybrid costs R$ 219,890, a considerable difference.
Visually, the Song Pro remains unchanged. It retains the full LED headlights (automatic for high and low beams) with vertical elements and the grille, which appears to have “layers,” the taillights that cut across the rear, and the large silver appliqué on the sides. The 18-inch wheels with 225/60 tires are also the same.
Its only new appearance feature is the option of a black body color, which joins the blue, gray, and white options. The black color suits it well and gives it a more elegant look, in addition to being a characteristic considered for the segment.
Exquisite interior and enhanced technology.
Nothing changes in the interior of the Song Plus 2026 either, which continues to offer light-colored upholstery as the only option. The look is interesting, but the use of orange in details and finishes gives it a “childish” and “fun” tone that doesn’t fit the segment. Furthermore, families may prefer darker upholstery for easier cleaning (or to disguise dirt). There could be a second, darker, and more discreet option.
Despite this, the finish is one of the SUV’s highlights and catches the eye of anyone who sees it. Whether you like the light tones or not, the attention to detail in the cabin is undeniable, with a variety of textures, sheens, and touches, as well as rubberized materials. There are synthetic coverings on the dashboard, with variations in patterns. The assembly is also good.
The instrument panel is 8.8 inches, with a good amount of information and presentation, and two possible layouts. The multimedia system is 12.8 inches, with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and several menus that spread out the functions and require some learning. The screen remains rotatable.
Among the standard features, the model has six airbags, NFC, dual-zone digital air conditioning, tire pressure monitoring, hill start assist, electronic parking brake, wireless phone charger, driver’s seat with electric adjustments, ambient lighting, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360° camera.
But, in addition, the Song Pro 2026 now features ADAS systems – only in the top-of-the-line GS version. The package includes: adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind spot alerts, lane keeping assist, rear collision alert, cross-traffic alert, and speed limit sign recognition.
Another good point of the BYD is the interior space. Those in the back won’t complain about the accommodations, with good leg, shoulder, and headroom, aided by the flat floor. It also offers air conditioning vents and USB ports in the rear seats, as well as the possibility of adjusting the backrest inclination. Finally, the trunk, with electric opening and closing, has a generous 520 liters of capacity.
The only PHEV up to R$ 200,000
There were no mechanical changes to the Song Pro 2026, and that’s a good thing. It combines a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine with 98 hp and 12.5 kgfm of torque, with a front-mounted electric motor producing 197 hp and 30.6 kgfm of torque. But there are differences between the GL and GS versions. While the cheaper GL reaches 223 hp of combined power, the more expensive GS has 235 hp.
This is due to the battery, which is also different between them. The GL has a smaller 12.9 kWh battery, with an electric range of 39 km according to Inmetro. The GS, tested by QUATRO RODAS, has an 18.3 kWh battery and promises a range of up to 62 km on a single charge.
In both, the maximum charging power is only 6.6 kWh, which is low, especially considering the fast charging capability of the GWM Haval H6 PHEV19. Both versions have a V2L function, which turns the car into a charging station.
The only one available for testing, the GS version, was taken to our track. And, according to our figures, it goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds. Good performance, noticeable in everyday driving. The Song Pro is an agile car, with good acceleration and overtaking, although it doesn’t convey the thrills of a sports car. In terms of fuel consumption, it achieved averages of 15.7 km/l in the city and 14.8 km/l on the highway, with a low battery charge.
The Song Pro’s handling is good, and the model has the best suspension among the brand’s SUVs, with a clear focus on comfort and smoothness, but with a balanced setup that doesn’t cause the body to lean or sway excessively. In the city, it absorbs road irregularities well, and the suspension’s operation is quiet. On the highway, there is good stability.
Verdict
It seems BYD has learned to listen to Brazilians. After adding some features to the Dolphin and King models, and adjusting the controversial suspension of the Dolphin Mini , the brand has made the Song Pro much more interesting and competitive than at launch. It’s spacious, comfortable, well-equipped, and now has the much-requested ADAS systems, which also help with safety. However, its days are numbered: in 2026, the SUV will get a flex-fuel engine and an updated look .
