Mundial de Clubes de vôlei masculino começa neste terça-feira em Belém

The Guilherme Paraense Gymnasium, Mangueirinho, in Belém (PA), will host the Men’s Volleyball Club World Championship starting this Tuesday (16). Brazil has three teams among the eight participants. Current champion, Cruzeiro will be the first to debut: at 10 am (Brasília time), the Minas Gerais team faces Osaka Bluteon (Japan), in Group B. Meanwhile, fellow countrymen Praia Clube faces Al-Rayyan (Qatar) at 5 pm and Vôlei Renata, from Campinas (SP), duels with Zawiercie (Poland) at 8:30 pm – both games in Group A. The matches will be broadcast live on VBTV, streaming by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).

This is the first time that the capital of Pará has hosted the FIVB event since the creation of the World Championship in 1989. Four other cities in the country have already hosted the competition: São Paulo (1991), Betim (2013, 2015, 2026, 2019, 2021 and 2022), Belo Horizonte (2014) and Uberlândia (2024).

Among the favorites for the title is Cruzeiro, winner of the 2024/25 Superliga. The team from Minas Gerais has won five Club World Championship trophies (2013, 2015, 2016, 2021 and 2024) and shares the title of most successful team in the tournament with Trentino (Italy), also a five-time champion, but not participating in this edition. Besides Osaka (Japan), the Asian runner-up, Cruzeiro will face Perugia (Italy), the European champion, and Swehly Sports Club (Lebanon), the African champion, both in Group B.

South American runner-up Praia Clube is in Group A, along with Vôlei Renata from Campinas, which won the spot reserved for the host country. Also in the group are the Polish team Zawiercie, European runner-up, and the Qatari team Al-Rayyan Sports Club, Asian champion.

In the first phase of the World Championship, the four clubs in each group compete against each other until Thursday (18). The top two teams qualify for the semifinals, scheduled for Saturday (20). The title match and the bronze medal match will take place on Sunday (20).
